![]() Like you say plenty of other games out there that do have higher limits. Population Limit AOE III Definitive Edition Hello AOE Community, So as many of you know Age of Empires III Definitive Edition was released today. I'd rather put 6 well defended Trebuchets to work pummelling the enemy walls and knocking out thier stables and barracks than make a massive army to do the same. I remember the 200 limit being introduced but quite honestly I rarley used it. I don't remember what the limit was back all those years ago. To answer your question 75 limit makes you use more skill. Choosing the best defenders and attackers from those troops available is far more fun than building up a massive assault force and letting a large percentage of them get killed in your attack. I've even played some games without losing any men. I don't rush my enemies and often let them get quite powerful while I grab al lthe resources and establish good bases with kill zones. Personally I enjoyed re-playing all those old campaigns. I've heard of reseting the population value can allow you to build anything without actually hitting the 200 mark because each value of unit is less than 1 in terms of population count. A good General doesn't use troops as cannon fodder. I doubt there's a way to get over 200 units unless you manually edit the game files or something. In fact, of the 133,000+ individual changes and additions made over the course of remastering the Age of Empires III: Complete Collection, the team over at Forgotten Empires has (very kindly) curated a list of the notable gameplay additions you’ll discover as you once again venture forth into Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. It's more about strategy and resource management. AOE is about commanding massive armies, not pitiful little squads. ![]() No way I'm playing this game with a measely 75 limit. Who wants to play the game with less troops? The best RTS games are the ones where there is no population limit, or there is one so high as to not be significant restriction, like 200. What I want to know is why this limit exists now. Age of Empires IV This popular historical strategy based video game developed by Relic Entertainment is set during the Early Middle Ages to. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to change pop limits or unit headroom size to balance things out.īut I say wait and see – yes it would be cool to see 3,000 units taking place on the field, but this is more about micro/strategy than RNG/turn-based fighting.Originally posted by Ohio9:Not interested. Its likely Modded/custom matches will support it in the future, but the ranked and standard games are likely to remain at 200. 200 has been the standard for almost all the AoE, and its balanced around that population number. They’ve said from the jump these are asymmetrical civilizations. 200 is way too small, that was the max for age2 back on CD. If you’re playing as Byzantine, you absolutely do need a higher than 200 pop because their bread and butter isn’t the Cataphract, it’s spamming halbs, skirms, and camels until you’ve trashed opponents into submission. I’ve always felt like certain civilizations are given an advantage because if this - e.x., Franks - because they have one super strong unit that still only consumes 1 population point (and you don’t need 75 lumberjacks to feed a paladin army). The only reason you NEED a higher population is because you’re spamming trash units – you need that eco to support such spam. I think the perfect number is 275, but that’s for Age2 - this is an entirely different game. ![]() In AoE2 I dislike it (and it’s a large reason I don’t play ranked), but even 300 is ‘almost’ too many. At any rate, this game already suffers enough from performance issues. There's no reason why anyone should have to make that many soldiers. Their decision to add 500 pop limit to AoE2 was dumb. It is too early to tell how the 200 pop limit will affect AoE4. Keeping the population limit at 200 means you have to balance your economy and army instead of mindlessly spamming villagers and soldiers. You can go over the limit by using triggers to spawn units, as seen in the Colosseum scenarios.
